Obama and The Greatest Generation’s Social Security Checks

I don’t write much about politics here – other than the “I can’t stand Joe Biden” refrain, but I want to say something now. I don’t have to say it; I want to say it. I’m being perfectly honest about that.

I am disgusted by President Obama announcing if people don’t do what he wants, there will be a reprisal. Saying it loud and clear to hit the headlines and reach those people who made it through the Depression and the war and worked.

I think that’s being a mean bully.

I once lived in John Boehner’s congressional district; I lived there before and after he was elected. My husband and I were invited to meet him at one of his first appearances at our neighbors’ home. I asked him a question – just like a real Washington reporter.

He said if he got to Washington, he planned on not just sitting around. Well, he didn’t.

I hope now he can stand up to the switchblade threat of Give me your money or the little lady gets it.

  1. Grrrr….. don’t get me started. In previous debt situations as we now have, social security and military received their pay, national parks etc were closed. He is being nothing but a fear-monger. Just irritates the heck out of me. What would you expect out of a marxist though?

  2. OMG! He is a marxist, isn’t he! I think by this issue he has shown his true colors. When he was running for President his arrogance infuriated me, it still gets my blood boiling. I hope this whole mess backfires on him. If the Republicans run a blind, deaf and mute candidate, I will vote for them. Anything is better than a leader who doesn’t know how to lead. His party didn’t do anything when they had the power and now he can’t talk his way into a compromise for the Americans he says he believes in. What a joke. I’d laugh if it weren’t so damn sad.

  3. You have a very good point. I have my opinions on lots of different aspects of what is going on in this country and I think most of those opinions have root in the idea of citizens being accountable and responsible – but that’s the overall view, cough, “the big picture.” As for the right here and now, I am not noble enough to easily say, “Go ahead and really rock the (my) boat.” So, my answer is: I don’t know.

  4. I don’t know either:) I do think we aren’t going to get out of this economic situation without more pain. I don’t think either side knows what to do. I do think cut, cap and budget might be better than tax and spend. I don’t think a President who walks out when he doesn’t get his way is a true leader, he sounds more like a ten year-old who says “I’m taking my ball and going home.” Or….maybe…a wannabe dictator. Thanks for letting me vent, by the way, I appreciate it. I feel better…a little.

  5. Well you guys just don’t give me any hope. I was hoping that the older and wiser would have the answers. *sigh* Because obviously our government doesn’t. I’m all for cap and budget, you can’t spend and save. It doesn’t work that way in my checkbook and it won’t work that way in the government checkbook even if they can print their own money. I do wish that people would look at history, recent history of what Japan went through when they tried Keynesian economics should be proof enough that it doesn’t work! Okay, is this supposed to make me feel better?

Back to my corner to sulk. 😉

  6. Potter Mom, if I was wiser …I’d be rich. But I agree, history should be looked at. When has the Keynesian model ever worked? Never would be my guess. I think our President knows that the final decision will become his legacy. I hope his legacy won’t be our country’s downfall.
