I’m not going to link to the post below, but I’m not going to take it down. I mean, really, it wouldn’t be right for me go, “Uh, nevermind,” Anyway, whenever I need a slap in the face, I can just read it and cringe.
So, on with the day . . . and those that follow.
I will try not to preach, I’ll try.
What people don’t acknowledge is that certain habits are as hard to “kick” as drugs or alcohol.
It really is a one day at a time thing. Just for today you can…fill in the blank.
Three years ago I replaced my usual French fries at lunch with an apple. Everyday I had to fight the urge for those golden morsels, some days I did some days I didn’t. But as the days passed I felt better. Then I joined Fit Zone (an all women’s gym). Again one day at a time I worked to improve
My workout, first one day a week then two then four. Within a year I had lost 20 pounds and my blood pressure went down.
I continue the fight one day at a time. I count calories, excercise at least 30 minutes every day and have lost 30 pounds and kept it off. My blood pressure is good and I feel great. And that is what matters.
So, one day at a time, do something good and healthy for yourself. And remember, we can’t change the past we can only do better in the future. When we know better we do better, when we do better we get better. Good luck.
Thanks for the non-preaching encouragement; heck, you can preach if you want. I truly appreciate you. I really do.
I think I might actually get a little logical about things and notice the pattern of the past: choose a stupid route – then regret. I might just be able to figure our a different M.O. for the time ahead. Of course, it will be just like geometry . . . I’ll have to do the proof and not just note the answer.
You know what I went through. Fifty pounds gone and they have mostly stayed off for almost two years now. I say mostly because like Albug said, some days are good and some are bad but you know what, you don’t let those bad days pull you down into a pit of “I just can’t do this despair.” you recognize the failure of the day, identify the issues (for me I eat for specific reasons), and you move on with a new start. It truly is a one meal at a time, one day at a time thing. I started out exercising by only walking. Every day I would walk. I got faster and went farther and I ran that half marathon eventually. Not that it was even a goal but by golly gee I did it! I made good choices in food and it was and srill is hard some days!
Look up Myfitnesspal.com. It is a great calorie counter/tracker and even lets you track exercise. It is almost like weight watchers except it is free. A nice perk.
The side benefit to this has been my whole family has improved their habits. My son is now looking like himself instead of that marshmallow guy in the movie Ghostbusters. One person motivates another. It’s what we do.
Thanks for helping me through a rough week last week. The girls did a good job, Rose and Sophie should both be proud. Oh and I am glad you were let out of the closet.
Walking is great exercise. Whatever you’re able to do, honor what you did.
Regarding the notes above, Albug, I totally agree with you about the habits. Sometimes it’s minute by minute. But you go girl. What you’re doing will be your best friend for life. Treat yourself well.
